Nicknames anyone?

My family is big on nicknames for people and pets alike. Growing up I had a ridiculously long nickname of Snorkermalorkerkorkaborker which at times was snorks or korker for short. My younger brother somehow lucked out with the short but sweet petname, Bug.

My 3 year old daughter is Magoo the Pixie Poo which often is shortened or changed to Goose, Goosey, or the beloved Goo. My baby boy is currently referred to as Little Man or Mr. Moose but I am sure another nickname will transpire as time goes on. This leads me to the reason for today's post. I have always called my stepdaughter Devy DooLittle. When she was just starting Kindergarten, her mother was filling out the mounds of paperwork that accompany sending your child off to get educated. There was a spot for the child's whole name and then nickname. Teen D wanted her mother to fill in DooLittle in the nickname space. We all had to laugh and explain that that was for children who wanted the teacher to call them a shortened version of their name (e.g., Mike instead of Michael). The thought of her Kindergarten teacher calling roll for a DooLittle still makes me laugh.

Nicknames are fun! I love giving the kids nicknames. Bug was givin his nickname by him mother. It started out as "snug as a bug in a rug" and was shortened to 'Bug'.
