Coffee and Strawberry Milk

Ready or not, here we come!

This past week we (the 3 kids, my husband and me) were getting ready to head back east for my family reunion. My hubby was loading the minivan with suitcases and I was buckling up the kids in their carseats. As I was strapping in Little Man, I noticed Goosey standing next me. I told her, "Sweetheart, your on the wrong side of the car." She said, "But why is (Little Man) in my carseat?". I looked down and sure enough I was buckling my 9 month old in my 3 year olds car seat. Promptly, Goosey said, "You didn't have your coffee yet mama?". I was laughing so hard. We obviously didn't start off our day in our normal strawberry milk and coffee fashion.

I should have seen this as a sign of things to come. I was dreading the flight. It is never easy with a child (let alone 3). Grant it, Teen D can pretty much take care of herself. Give her some headphones, a teen idol magazine and she is good to go. But a 3 year old and a 9 month old who must remain seated adn somewhat quiet for a 9 hour trip is typically a recipe for disaster. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome they both were.

Me on the other hand, "Must not of had enough coffee that morning" was in the ozone layer. First I forgot the name of the car rental place that we had reserved in Buffalo. Once we got there I was able to eliminate car rentals I knew I had not used and that left us with National. When I went to get the car, I was told by the lady working behiond the counter that my license was expired...BY 7 MONTHS!!!! NICE!! So my hubby was registered as the sole driver adn we had to change credit cards that we were usign to get the car.

So now we have the rent a car, 7 tired people (my parents were brave enough to travel with us) and an hour drive a head of us to Rochester. Well, Little Man had had enough and wanted out. He cried hard while we headed down the thruway. My hubby didn't handle this well. He wanted me to have a miracle cure to calming down my little man. When I had none, he was, let's just say, a little uptight.

Once in Rochester, now around midnight, I could not remember the name or the address of our hotel. Yes, it amazing that the other adults in the car weren't ready to throw me out the minivan. Here we are in Greece (knowing the general area of the hotel) driving around and running into 3 different hotels to see if possibly I had a reservation there. Luckily one lady behind the desk in one of the random hotels was able to tell us the hotel we were most likely looking for by my small recollections of the place I did have.

This absentmindedness was unusual for me because normally I am an organization freak! I guess Goosey was more intuned with my state of mind that morning than I was. Next trip. mommy is making a pot of coffee, not just the standard cup.
